German Teaching Fellow

Part Time, 80% FTE (30 weeks during term-time plus 6 weeks outside term-time) 

From 1 September 2017 to 31 August 2018

Grade 7 - Full time starting salary is normally in the range £29,301 to £38,183 with potential progression once in post to £40,523 a year.

The Department of Modern Languages is looking to appoint a Teaching Fellow in German Studies. The expectation is that the post holder will be available during the full teaching week in term-time, plus a further 6 weeks preparation time, teaching and supervision work outside of term-time.

The successful candidate will have: a PhD in German Studies or be near completion of a PhD; the expertise to teach in the area specified in the job particulars; experience of teaching in a university department or equivalent; fluent written and spoken English and German.

The post-holder will be required to undertake teaching in the Department in modules in German Studies. This will include teaching of German language at all levels, first-year seminars on German culture, history and society since 1800 and supervising undergraduate projects and dissertations. Candidates able to teach second-year undergraduate courses on German Literary Modernism and/or German film may be preferred. They will also be expected to undertake administrative work in the Department, to develop teaching materials, to act as a personal tutor and to undertake second-marking.
