Director of Teaching & Learning in Psychology (Senior Lecturer or Professor)

The Department of Psychology at York is seeking to appoint a Director of Teaching and Learning. This is a new role, created to support our commitment to outstanding teaching and learning. The appointee will have experience in managing innovation and delivery of teaching, along with knowledge of the national context relevant to psychology. We will appoint at the level of Senior Lecturer or Professor, according to experience.

The Role

You will support the department’s management team in all matters relating to teaching, learning and the student experience. Providing leadership in overseeing the development and delivery of the department’s programmes, you will liaise between university and department bodies to ensure the maintenance of excellence in the student experience. A key challenge of this position will be to take a lead role in preparing the department’s response to national exercises, such as TEF and BPS accreditation.

Key Requirements: (viewed relative to the level of post, see candidate briefs for more details):

  • PhD in Psychology or equivalent experience and an appropriate academic professional and teaching qualification
  • Ability to contribute to innovations in teaching and learning through the development of teaching materials, of forms of pedagogy, or of appropriate teaching collaborations
  • Proven ability to lead a team and provide wider academic leadership
  • Ability to teach at any level within area of expertise and across a range of subjects at a more introductory level
  • Experience of teaching and assessment in higher education
  • Creativity, initiative and judgement in applying appropriate approaches to teaching, learning support and scholarly activities


Professorial= £62,585 - £80,200              
Senior Lecturer= £49,149 - £56,950
