Part-Time: 29.2 hours per week (80% FTE).

A part-time (80% FTE) Laboratory Research Technician position is available in the lab of Dr Jennifer Bizley at the UCL Ear Institute. The UCL Ear Institute is the leading interdisciplinary centre for auditory science in Europe, situated within one of the strongest neuroscience research communities in the world at University College London. The primary duty associated with the position will be to support ongoing experiments involving in vivo electrophysiological recording in behaving ferrets. Specific responsibilities will include training animals on behavioural tasks, assisting with surgical procedures, helping with construction of multi-electrode implants and other specialised experimental devices, assisting with electrophysiological recording procedures, preparing tissue for histological processing, and maintaining laboratory supplies.

The appointment will be for 1 year in the first instance.

Essential requirements include an undergraduate degree and relevant lab experience, including proficiency in at least one of the following: electrophysiological recording, animal behavioural training, and/or histology and immunohistochemistry. Applicants must also have excellent time-management and organisational skills, and outstanding communication skills with good command of both oral and written English. Attention to detail and accurate record-keeping is required, along with ability to innovate, trouble-shoot, and problem-solve.
