£50,618 to £58,655 dependent on experience

The Department of Media Arts and Communication is now looking for a Subject Group Leader to manage and lead the Journalism and Public Relations Subject Group on a permanent basis.

You will have the skills to provide academic and management leadership for the subject group ensuring the delivery of current and innovative courses with the appropriate curriculum for the level.

Your role will be to raise the profile of the subject area and to enhance its reputation nationally and internationally and so we will expect you to have both an academic and professional background in Journalism and/or Public Relations. You will support and develop staff within the subject group to achieve their personal goals and those of the subject group and department in line with the university strategy. Work planning is at the heart of this with a key role managing the delivery of courses and continuous quality enhancement.

You must have experience of successful strategic development at module/course and/or subject group level and have the ability to line manage the activities of a team/subject group. Excellent people management skills including the ability to establish good working relationships, persuade others and manage performance and potential conflict effectively is vital to this role. You will have an entrepreneurial approach to developing the subject group and have the leadership skills to take the group forward as it responds to the changing landscape of the sector and HE.
