The post is available fixed term for 5 months and will be based at Newcastle University.

We are seeking a highly-motivated person to work on a project investigating the automated detection of health and welfare problems in pigs. You will join a high-class team of academic and Industry collaborators and supporting team of technicians, and you will be responsible for setting up and maintaining the ICT infrastructure for the automatic collection and analysis of performance and behaviour data of farm pigs (at the Newcastle University and collaborating farms). 

You will possess a degree or diploma in computer science or ICT, or will have gained relevant equivalent knowledge through practical experience. You will require strong system administration skills (Windows and/or Linux), and be open for working in farm environments (no direct animal contact), under both commercial and research conditions, and will need to demonstrate the ability for efficient time organisation, good numeracy and IT skills for data management.
