Communications Officer

The Department of Chemical Engineering welcomes applications for the post of Communications Officer to manage, promote and publicise news and achievements in Chemical Engineering research.

Reporting to the Department Operations Manager you will be responsible for planning and executing an effective communications service including; website maintenance, use of new digital media, managing and developing social media channels, producing a range of publicity materials, as well as writing press releases and articles.

You will be co-ordinating and hosting a range of high-profile events and seminars and representing the Department to relevant media and communications contacts. You will also produce and/or commission audio-visual materials on an ad hoc basis. In addition you will assist with the collection, collation and analysis of data related to research publications and university ranking exercises, assisting the Department in maintaining its world-class reputation for research and teaching delivery.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will be highly motivated with excellent organisational skills and have the ability to interact confidently with students and staff at all levels. You will have the ability to prioritise workloads and use your initiative to seek out, analyse and solve problems. You must also be able and willing to undertake a wide variety of work, so a flexible approach is essential.

Previous experience of website maintenance and communicating science to academic and lay audiences are essential, as is the ability to produce clear and concise material using appropriate IT packages. Proven success in coordinating and managing a range of events is a must. Experience of working within Higher Education is preferred while excellent interpersonal, communication and report writing skills are essential.

The post is offered as a Full-time open-ended contract and is based in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London (South Kensington Campus).
