Resident Academic Full-Time Post in Animation Department of Digital Arts

Applications are invited for a full-time Resident Academic Post in Animation in the Department of Digital Arts within the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences.

The appointment will be on a four-year definite contract, which may be renewed, subject to a one-year probationary period.

The appointee will be required to lead the Animation pathway in the BFA in Digital Arts (Hons) programme, contribute to research and other activities of the Department of Digital Arts, teach practice-based and theoretical studio classes at undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervise undergraduate and graduate student dissertations.

Candidates must be in possession of a Ph.D. in Animation, through a practice-based route. Candidates are also expected to be practicing professionals and possess proven expertise in the animation industry.

Strong visual art and design skills and the ability to work in an environment of collaboration across courses and disciplines to mirror the exchange that exists within the industry are required. The desired applicant must be able to demonstrate a capacity for conducting original creative research and practice in one or more of the following areas of animation: Film, Television, VR and Games amongst others. Candidates need to demonstrate a strong portfolio of practice-based creative work and a strong publication record in the area.

Due importance will be given to the candidate’s lecturing experience at university level, experience in studio format teaching, research agenda, quality of practice and projects/publications, together with industry and/or creative practice work experience. Experience in practice-based student dissertation supervision at BA and MA levels will be considered an asset.

The ability to form collaborations and partnerships with researchers from other disciplines and a proven track record in successful funding application at an international level is also highly desirable.
