Research Fellow in Operational Research / Advanced Analytics

NIHR CLAHRC Wessex is looking to recruit two Research Fellows in Operational Research (ERE grade 4). A successful candidate will work within the Data Science Hub and benefit from collaboration with our dedicated team of data scientists, operational researchers, medical statisticians and other quantitative researchers.

Example modelling projects undertaken by the hub include:

  • Simulation modelling of emergency departments, in-patient and cross organisational flow
  • System Dynamics modelling of health and social care
  • Location analysis and optimisation for sexual health facilities in Hampshire
  • Optimisation and scheduling of community home visits
  • Agent based simulation of hepatitis-C transmission
  • Forecasting respiratory admissions 

This is an exciting opportunity for a modeller interested using Operational Research to make an impact in health.Our last two projects have influenced the spending of ~£25 million pounds in the local health economy. 

A general grounding in mathematical modelling, coding and analysis of complex data are essential for the role. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their potential or ability to work with non-academic staff in healthcare settings and will weight this strongly against technical skills/training requirements.

Contract available until Dec 2018 (with the possibility of extension to 2019, a contract for extended funding is currently under negotiation)
