An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Research and Enterprise Office (REO) at the University of Essex, as Research Impact Officer (Humanities).

The successful candidate will join a lively and friendly team of almost 50 professionals in the REO, working to enable research development, knowledge exchange and wider impact, engagement with businesses, and having institutional research planning and governance responsibilities. The REO supports and enables excellent research with impact to be conducted within this world-leading research-intensive University which is proud to be both top 20 for research excellence (REF 2014) and Gold rated in the Teaching Excellence Framework (2017).

The Role and Duties

The post-holder will work directly with academics in the Humanities faculty, supporting the development of high quality impact case studies for REF submission, impact statements for funding applications, and research project impact plans. You will contribute to the development of guidance materials and resources, and, as part of a small team of RIOs working across faculties, to the development and delivery of briefing sessions and training on research impact and associated topics. The post-holder will contribute to the effective operation of institutional systems and processes for identifying and recording research impact activity and the gathering and collating of evidence.

Skills and Qualifications required

The successful candidate will be educated to at least graduate level, have a good understanding of the Higher Education research impact agenda and the Research Excellence Framework, excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, ability to work on their own initiative, and a proactive, solution-focused approach. Experience of working in a higher education or research environment is essential.
