We are a forward-looking service, committed to a culture of continuous improvement and service excellence.

This team supports academics, researchers and students in a range of laboratory/workshop/field based activities including those involving undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, enterprise and public engagement. MMU values their students highly and you will contribute to giving them an excellent student experience that will allow them to develop and flourish in their chosen subjects and careers. Research is also growing in a range of Computer Science and Engineering Sciences disciplines.

This is an exciting and challenging role at the heart of the University’s aspirations to be world leading. Good development opportunities are available and there is a generous holiday entitlement. You may be required to work an evening during term time to cover classes, and the occasional Saturday for special events and/or open days, for which time off in lieu will be given.

You will work as a Technical Officer, with specialist engineering computer hardware and software as your particular specialism, and to provide both routine and specialist services within the Science and Engineering Laboratories and Workshops.

We are looking for someone experienced in working as part of a small team and with excellent communication skills, as the role will liaise with a number of teams and individuals across the University.

You will be expected to have experience of software, equipment and processes associated with a modern computing laboratory/workshop, and familiarity with software such as

  • Ansys
  • Solidworks

A working familiarity with Windows HPC and the Linux operating system is desirable. However, for the right candidate with a demonstrable willingness in expanding their skills, training in these areas can be provided. You will have a good grounding in H&S and maintenance of computer equipment. This role will suit an enthusiastic and motivated IT professional or an Engineer with good IT skills and knowledge.
