Laureate Online Education in partnership with the University of Liverpool is accepting applications for online Doctoral Thesis Supervisors for our DBA programme.

Role profile:

We are looking for individuals with a background in management-oriented, actionable research and research methodologies to augment our current team of thesis supervisors for our online students during the Thesis stage of the programme. Thesis supervisors are expected to maintain regular contact with their research students. This primarily occurs on an individual basis with the assistance of appropriate forms of communication technology. Thesis supervision is conducted as part of a small supervisory team.

For the Doctoral Supervisor profile, we are seeking active researchers with experience in doctoral supervision and familiar with theoretical concepts and practical methodologies of Critical Action Learning as well as Management Research and Action Research.

The ideal candidate is a specialist in the field of Management Theory, Critical Action Learning, and Action Oriented Research, and should possess previous experience in supervising doctoral candidates, with preference for professional doctorates programs in the relevant field. Previous supervision of research degrees should be shown either through to successful completion and/or experience of external examining of research degrees. Preference will be given to candidates with professional qualifications as well as academic credentials.

Essential Criteria

  • Earned Doctoral Degree in a Business, Management, or related discipline.
  • Background in Critical Action Learning and Action Research.
  • Conduct of recent research relevant to the study of management theory, action oriented research, and practical problem solving for organisations.
  • In terms of research outputs in the last five years, the candidate should have: three or more peer-reviewed publications in journals that are at least of national excellence or two or more peer-reviewed publications in peer-reviewed journals and four or more other publicly available intellectual contributions.
  • Prior experience of supervising doctoral candidates to completion
  • Excellent skills for oral and written communication in English.
  • Capacity to maintain good personal relations while working remotely.

Desirable Criteria

  • Engagement as a member of an editorial board or as a reviewer of articles submitted for publication in a recognised academic journal.
  • Previous experience of supervising remote doctoral students.
  • Experience working in or knowledge of the UK University system would also be an advantage.


Application is by CV which should include a list of recent and relevant publications (journal publications, conference papers, and other scholarly contributions, especially those in the last five years) and evidence of relevant higher education experience, duration, and subjects taught, as well as details of two referees.   • Details about your earned doctorate: awarding institution, date of award, subject matter, thesis title.
  • Details of supervisory experience and/or examiner experience at doctoral level.

Initial training:

Selected applicants will be trained to undertake this role in a virtual environment similar to the one our students use during a 2-hour week training session. The training will be conducted 100% online and is not restricted to specific hours or geographic location. Experiential and intense, the training is founded on the best current research in online learning and teaching in a global context and represents the first of many opportunities to engage with colleagues from around the world. The training is compulsory and followed by a period of individual mentoring. Upon successful completion of both you will be added to our roster of accredited online Doctoral Supervisors.

Training will be on May 24th 2018 for deployment in Q3/Q4 2018.
