Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in Institute of Perception, Action and Behaviour, School of Informatics. The project, titled ‘Holey Sampling’, is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), UK. The goal of the project is to develop connections between the topological signatures of sampled data and the strategies used to sample the data. The ideal candidate will have a strong mathematical background in the area of topological data analysis. In addition, candidates with experience in the analysis or application of stochastic processes will be preferred.

The candidate is expected to have a strong background with working experience in topological data analysis and/or machine learning. The candidate must have published in the top conferences and journals in relevant areas. The candidate is expected to have experience in mathematical analysis pertaining to algebraic or computational topology. Candidates with direct experience in stochastic processes will be preferred. The appointee will be responsible to carry out the research outlined above and to contribute to the supervision of a PhD student.

The post will involve:

  • writing papers, targeting international conferences and journals;
  • supporting and assisting PhD students exploring similar areas;
  • attending international conferences; and
  • reporting progress to the granting agency (EPSRC).

The post is full-time and fixed-term from 1st May 2018 until 31st July 2019.

Salary: £32,548 - £38,833 per annum.
