Impact and Engagement Officer

Swansea University - Research Engagement and Innovation Services

This is a fixed term position until 31 December 2020

Main Purpose of the Post

The primary purpose of the Impact and Engagement Officer role is to strengthen and manage the University’s external collaborations with industry and the public sector, building major strategic partnerships to drive research development. The post holder will be engaged in the successful delivery of the University’s REF Impact submissions and major development programmes that deliver significant social and economic impact. In addition, the I&E Officer will be instrumental in developing external partnerships and working with businesses, sponsors and external grant funding bodies to maximise the University’s research and innovation opportunities.

Externally, the role of the Impact and Engagement Officer is to understand market drivers, seek and develop strategic partnerships, and to help manage the University’s relationship with particular companies on an on-going basis. Many of these companies will be multinational corporations, collaborating on activities worth several £M. Internally, the role holder is to work with University Departments and individual academics to promote and facilitate the development of these industrial collaborations.

The post holder will be responsible for monitoring the resulting impact and benefit of initiatives.

Working with world-leading researchers and professional service staff within the Bay Hub, the post-holder will be instrumental in building strategic alliances that leverage Swansea University’s unique commercial potential into viable development and funding opportunities that benefit the University, industry and society. Success will require a collaborative approach in opportunity management and engagement with other College based hubs and REIS.

Linking with REIS, the post holder will champion the Client Relationship Management (CRM) system for the College Hub, in terms of its development and use and demonstrate the benefits and best practice of relationship management in a customer service setting. This will also entail training and support to the College based users of the CRM system.

As part of the broader business engagement team, focus is required on building close working relationships with all disciplines across campus and with cross disciplinary bodies such as National Research Networks, and other business related strategic initiatives including Knowledge Transfer Networks, Innovate UK, RCUKs and Welsh Government initiatives such as the SMART suite of programmes.
