Director of Pre-sessional Courses

An opportunity has arisen in the International Office for Director of Pre-sessional Courses, who will be responsible for designing, developing and managing pre-sessional courses delivered on the University’s Birmingham campuses and overseas. 

This exciting position will involve leading the development of new pre-sessional courses and redesigning existing programmes. You will be expected to manage and recruit permanent Teaching Fellows and Visiting Lecturers working on all pre-sessional programmes. You will also be expected to regularly monitor and update materials and assessments used on pre-sessional courses, and to design and implement quality assurance measures to ensure their effectiveness.

The successful applicant will possess a relevant postgraduate qualification (eg Master’s in Applied Linguistics, TEFL) and a relevant teaching qualification (CELTA/DELTA). They will have experience of teaching on and/or managing pre-sessional programmes at this University and/or other universities. They should also have substantial experience of teaching English for Academic Purposes overseas.  Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential to the role, and a track record of publishing EAP materials is desirable, as is experience of English language assessment.
