Research Associate - Fixed Term Contract

University of Bath - Chemical Engineering

This position is provided by the University of Bath as part of the EPSRC project ‘ OMMS: Optimising Me Manufacturing Systems’, in collaboration with the University of Kent, University of Bristol, UCL, Cambridge University and Imperial College.

This project will develop a novel microfactory platform, which will remove the need for manufacturing T-cell immunotherapies in vitro by placing a micro-manufacturing facility on the body. This approach will shift personalised therapeutic manufacture from a centralised ‘impersonal’ manufacturing facility, to a redistributed, point-of-care ‘personal’ manufacturing where cell isolation, processing and re-administration will all occur within the system on the body. Effective process biometrology will be guaranteed  by embedding novel biosensors into the microfactory platform.

The Research Associate, located in Bath, will  be involved in the development of self-powered miniature biosensors for the on-chip measurement of biological indicators of the efficacy of T-cell manufacturing (biometrology), such as cell viability, transduction/transfection efficiencies, expression of key surface markers. The focus of biometrology is to ensure in real time both the safety and efficacy of the isolated T-cell population growth and differentiation on chip.

This post is full time (36.5 hours per week) and is being offered on a fixed term contract basis of up to 24 months in duration.
