Associate Professor/Professor in Forensic & Legal Medicine

Applications are invited for a permanent part – time appointment as Associate Professor/Professor in Forensic & Legal Medicine.


To lead the development, administration and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the subject of Forensic and Legal Medicine. The Associate Professor/Professor will also be expected to lead a programme of research in forensic medicine, legal medicine, or medical ethics, and will report to the Head of the School of Medicine.

The Subject of Forensic and Legal Medicine

The academic subject of Forensic and Legal Medicine in UCD Medicine includes the specialties of forensic pathology; clinical forensic medicine; medical law & jurisprudence and medical ethics. It is situated within the academic section of General Practice & Forensic and Legal Medicine. The subject delivers specialist research and undergraduate & postgraduate education in its constituent disciplines for the School and contributes more broadly to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in healthcare in the College of Health & Agricultural Sciences. The subject has made a unique contribution to Irish and international postgraduate medical education and offers excellent opportunities for development and impact nationally and internationally.

The School seeks a suitably qualified individual to lead the subject. Priorities for the School include the continued delivery and development of high quality undergraduate teaching programmes in line with the requirements of the Medical Council and of highly regarded postgraduate clinical forensic medicine and healthcare risk management programmes for a national and international market. The subject has an esteemed reputation internationally for quality postgraduate education with excellent opportunities for future development. Additionally, the subject delivers research in the areas of forensic medicine, medical law, medical ethics, and has an established track record of broader contribution. The subject has made significant societal service contribution via scholarly activities, policy development and invited membership of advisory committees to government departments, healthcare bodies and An Garda Siochána. 95 Professor Salary Scale: €83,800 - €111,159 per annum, pro rota

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
