Job Description

We are seeking a lecturer/senior lecturer in Global Cultures and Liberal Arts Education, with interest and experience in online pedagogies. A PhD in a relevant field within the Arts & Humanities, or Social Sciences, and a minimum of one year experience in teaching and academic administration in higher education are required. The ability to teach in a global context across at least one of the following areas would be an advantage: diversity and inclusion; indigenous studies; cross-cultural leadership; cultural studies from/of the Global South.

This appointment will join the Liberal Arts Department and will play a pivotal role in expanding online educational offerings related to the  Master’s in Global Cultures, supporting its expansion as a leading interdisciplinary programme in Arts & Humanities. The post-holder will contribute to the development of King’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Executive Education (EE) offerings, in conjunction with King’s Professional & Executive Development team.

The MA in Global Cultures enables students (especially those in professional or employment contexts) to engage with concepts and practices addressing contemporary challenges in global and diverse workplaces. As such, this role will support mature working professionals in postgraduate education – a goal at the heart of King’s mission for widening access.

Alongside contributions to the Global Cultures programme, the post-holder  may also be required to contribute to co-taught, interdisciplinary modules on the Liberal Arts undergraduate programme. Therefore, a strong commitment to interdisciplinary education and scholarship is highly desirable.

Experience of various forms of online teaching and learning, pastoral care, and supporting student wellbeing is also highly desirable. As part of the Liberal Arts team, the lecturer/senior lecturer will contribute to fostering an active culture of engagement with the BA and MA programmes, including organising and attending extra-curricular activities. The post-holder will also be asked to serve in administrative and leadership roles as required.

Working on content development, within online contexts, it is expected the post-holder will contribute to the teaching and administration of key modules of the Global Cultures MA, such as:

  • Diversity and Inclusion in Practice;
  • Communicating Global Cultures;
  • Creative Leadership;
  • Creating Connections: Integrating Knowledge in a Fragmenting World;
  • Advanced Research Skills;
  • Research Project Design;
  • Independent Research Project.

This lectureship will fall within the Academic Education Pathway, which is focused on the delivery of education, education-related scholarship, and leadership in education. We seek applicants who can contribute to our goals of delivering innovative, inclusive, and diverse education in a global context. We particularly welcome candidates who have expertise on areas from the Global South.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract starting in September - 2024.

This is a full-time post.
