Our International Office is responsible for leading the University’s internationalisation activities, including international student recruitment, profile and reputation-building activities, international partnership development, transnational education, and global mobility programmes.

The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi 

We are seeking a Marketing Lead with an understanding of international marketing methods who enjoys an operational role with a focus on team management (4 direct reports), effective tracking and reporting and a fast-paced agency style of work.

In this role, you will foster a positive relationship with our prospective international students, education agents, and partners to deliver memorable and engaging experiences. You will need an understanding of international marketing methods to meet our brand, recruitment, diversification, and wider internationalisation goals. You will do this using best practice industry knowledge and your operational know-how to achieve measurable results.

You will be tasked with increasing brand awareness, quality lead generation and meaningful engagement to support international student recruitment via direct channels (B2C) and through our agents, institutional partners, etc (B2B). You’ll make use of automation tools with support from subject matter experts across the team and wider university, and interpret data, to understand customer behaviours and journeys to create amazing customer experiences. We would also like you to champion our team principles of being student-focused, digital-first and data-driven in your decision making.

Your role is to inspire, guide and develop the international marketing team, which operates like an in-house agency, working closely with our global student recruitment team. This highly influential position involves providing leadership and direction to a diverse group of creative professionals, ensuring they are well-integrated, highly motivated, proactive, accountable, and effectively aligned with our internationalisation strategy.

This is a role that involves a wide range of duties, including the active management of your team, stakeholder engagement with Faculties, other marketing teams and external agencies and the development of marketing content and campaigns. You will work to implement an already established international marketing plan, control your budget, and seek to make the most efficient allocation of resources. Over time you will develop your own long-term strategies and put in place more efficient working processes, tracking and reporting methods.

About the team | Mō tō mātou rōpū

The International Office contributes to how the University articulates, executes, and maintains its international ambitions and aims to significantly impact the global higher education landscape to further the University’s interests in teaching, research and outreach for the benefit of all our communities.

You will be joining a professional central service division within the University which consists of around 50 professionals and supports our 8 Faculties with their student recruitment activities. You will report to the Deputy Director for International Marketing and Recruitment and partner with the International Recruitment Manager to formulate strategies, tackle operational challenges and ensure that key outcomes are achieved.

You will manage a team of four marketing professionals with specialist knowledge in media buying, content creation, campaign operations and project management. You will also work closely with marketing agencies, other marketing teams and senior stakeholders from across the University.

This is a position that requires someone who enjoys the energy of a busy team with a large variety of stakeholders and responsibilities. The position description describes the variety of activities that you will be asked to undertake, but your key focus will be team management, planning and delivery, financial management, reporting and stakeholder engagement.  

If you can demonstrate your experience and showcase your impact and learnings in the above key focus areas, your application will be highly considered. We are looking for experience of developing teams, with a sense of how to leverage relationships to gain effective results in a complex environment, and a genuine interest in applying best practice modern marketing techniques with effective tracking and data collection to better inform future actions and demonstrate the success of the team in the short term.

We are seeking | E rapua ana mātou

  • A Higher Education qualification (Postgraduate preferred) in a field relevant to International Education and Marketing, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrable digital marketing experience with a strong understanding of digital marketing campaign metrics and KPIs.
  • Experience of running international marketing campaigns across various regions simultaneously.   
  • Previous experience of working in a marketing role for a large complex, and sometimes siloed organisation.
  • Financial management skills, including budgeting and optimisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and supervision to a diverse team to motivate, develop, empower, and coach staff to excellence in work performance, client service and the achievement of international marketing goals.
  • The ability to provide examples of how you base your decisions on product research and market intelligence to construct and execute integrated and innovative marketing campaigns across multiple channels and diverse audiences in a competitive industry/landscape.
