The role
The Department of German in the School of Modern Languages at the University of Bristol seeks to appoint a fixed-term Lecturer in German (Pathway 3, 0.8 FTE) for a period of one year (from 1 August 2024 to 31 July 2025). We are looking for a colleague who can contribute dynamically to the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the Department of German, and to elements of our Comparative Literatures and Cultures programme within the School.
What will you be doing?
You will contribute widely to teaching in the Department of German, and on the Comparative Literature and Cultures programme. You will participate in the preparation, delivery, and assessment of team and individually taught units, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, delivering lectures, workshops, and seminars, as well as providing individual supervision to students. You will also act as a unit convenor, collaborating actively with colleagues in the German Department and across the School of Modern Languages. You will take on an appropriate share of administrative responsibilities, including pastoral responsibilities as a Personal Tutor, and will participate actively in the vibrant daily life of the German Department and the wider School.
You should apply if
You have a PhD in German Studies, or Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies including German, awarded (or expected to be awarded) by the start date of the post. You have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and German, and some experience of teaching in higher education, with expertise relevant to the teaching required.
The appointment start date is 1 August 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.
