Based in Dunedin, the School of Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Sciences/Te Kura Para-Whakawai at the University of Otago/Te Whare Wānaga o Otāgo has a long-standing international reputation as a leader in education, research and community service.

The role - Te mahi

The successful applicant's expertise will be informed by Pedagogical and Socio-cultural theoretical perspectives, and they will apply their Pedagogy expertise in either the Sports Coaching, Physical Education and/or Leadership contexts.

The general expectations for the role include the following key tasks:

  • Coordinating and delivering effective research-informed undergraduate teaching and learning in our SPEX 207 Understanding Sports Coaching and SPEX 307 Coaching, Leadership and Mentoring papers as well as contribute to teaching at 100-level.
  • Contributing to research-informed teaching and learning at postgraduate level.
  • Contributing to curriculum development and leadership within the School's undergraduate majors, particularly the Physical Education, Activity and Health major.
  • Contributing to the research activities of the School, including developing/growing your own impactful research programme, publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, obtaining external funding support, and supervising research students.
  • Contributing to the effective and efficient running of the School and its responsibilities within the University and out to the wider community.
  • Promoting the School's efforts to understand and realise the letter and the spirit of the University's Māori Strategic Framework, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Your skills and experience - Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

The successful candidate will have:

  • A confirmed doctoral degree in the field of Pedagogy with a focus on Sport Coaching, Physical Education and/or Leadership.
  • Experience of effective teaching in field of expertise at a tertiary institution.
  • A developing research focus with a track record of publishing high quality research, (commensurate with years of research experience) and ability to secure competitive grants.
  • Commitment to upholding values, tikanga, kawa and traditions, as guided by Ngāi Tahu who are mana whenua in the region.
  • An ability to form collaborations and work collegially.

Practical experience of supporting the delivery of Sport Coaching/Education opportunities within community contexts is desirable.

This is a permanent, full-time (1.0 FTE) position, located in Dunedin.

The appointment range for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer is $90,902 to $138,182.
