THE ROLE

Birmingham City University is seeking an established academic leader to join the College of Accountancy, Finance and Economics as Deputy Head of College. Supporting the Head of College, the post holder will provide leadership to the College, promoting and developing the College’s offer in line with the Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences strategic plan.

In this role and as a key member of the College Management Team, you will provide leadership in learning and teaching, research, and enterprise and engagement. The Deputy Head of College will actively foster a positive working environment within the College, encouraging active engagement and valuing the contributions of colleagues. The post holder will manage change projects across the College, and work closely with the Head of College to ensure that agreed performance standards relating to REF, research income, NSS results and other metrics, are met. To be successful as Deputy Head of College, the post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues across Colleges and Faculties in Birmingham City University, to support projects and initiatives to develop the university as a whole.

The successful candidate will hold a higher degree and a track record of leadership and management in an academic environment. Candidates will demonstrate experience of project management and delivery, and the ability to motivate and manage other colleagues to meet performance targets. The post holder must be research active and engaged within research in their discipline. The Deputy Head of College will demonstrate their capacity to inspire others through their teaching and have strong interpersonal skills to form meaningful and positive working relationships. 

A PhD or doctorate level qualification is desirable for this role, and it is also desirable for candidates to have experience of fostering successful interaction between higher education, industry or commerce, and research and professional bodies.
