Research Associate in Ocean Modelling (Fixed Term)

An opening exists for a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge to work on a joint project between the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics and the British Antarctic Survey. The successful candidate will have (or nearly completed) a PhD in Oceanography.

The successful applicant will join the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics under the primary supervision of Professor John Taylor (www.damtp.cam.ac.uk/user/jrt51) and will work closely with project partners at the British Antarctic Survey. The successful applicant will combine an ocean model with new observations collected by the team at BAS to study ocean-driven melting of Antarctic ice shelves.

The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Taylor and other members of the project team to accomplish the project goals. Experience analyzing ocean turbulence data is highly desirable. The successful applicant will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required. They must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. The post holder may also be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
