The School of Chemistry at the University of Bristol welcomes applications for independently funded research fellowships from a range of research councils and charities (e.g., UKRI, the Royal Society, European Research Council, the Wellcome Trust), particularly from those looking to develop research programmes under the strategic themes of Digital Chemistry, Sustainable Chemistry, and Engineering Biology.
The School offers a thriving environment to launch an independent research career, and currently hosts 6 research fellows. Within the last 10 years, all our research fellows have secured permanent academic positions either at Bristol or at other excellent institutions.
As an independent research fellow in Bristol Chemistry, you will have access to outstanding laboratories, world-leading facilities and infrastructure. Our reputation as an outstanding UK Chemistry department was further recognised in the latest Research Excellence Framework assessment (REF2021), where the department was ranked 1st for Chemistry research.
You will be supported in developing your career at Bristol through an academic mentor within the department. Support on the technical content, costings and help preparing for interview will also be provided. Additionally, extensive professional development training will be available from the University’s staff development team Bristol Clear, who offer extensive courses on numerous topics including leadership, teaching and entrepreneurship.
Applications are strongly encouraged from suitably qualified candidates from all backgrounds, especially women and those historically under-represented in scientific research. The School of Chemistry at the University of Bristol is strongly committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion through all its activities and currently holds an Athena SWAN Bronze Award. We are committed to a positive working environment, including flexible working and parental leave.
Expressions of interest to hold a fellowship at Bristol Chemistry should contact the School Research Director, Prof M. Carmen Galan (srd-chemistry@bristol.ac.uk), including a brief statement of their research interests and track record.
