The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester invites applications for a 3-year post in Latin, within the Department of Classics, Ancient History, Archaeology and Egyptology (CAHAE). The current post arises from the need to replace Professor Alison Sharrock, who will take up a 3-year Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship in September 2024.
The successful candidate will have, or will be close to completing, a PhD in Latin Literature. They will have University teaching experience in the areas of Latin language and Latin literature (including poetry) and should be able to demonstrate the effectiveness of their teaching.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the delivery and assessment of existing undergraduate course units in Latin language and Latin literature, in particular during their first year of employment, the following courses: Intensive Latin I and II; Aeneid (L1); and a L2/L3 split-level course, Roman Love Elegy (in translation) The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to administration for the Department as requested, and to play a full role in regular recruitment activities and staff-student events. They should demonstrate the ability to undertake the academic supervision and pastoral support of undergraduates.
