Applications are invited for a Permanent post of Lecturer / Assistant Professor OR Associate Professor in Materials Science and Engineering within UCD School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering.

Applications are invited for a faculty role in the School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering, which may be appointed at the Lecturer/Assistant Professor (above the bar) or Associate Professor level. This is a permanent position. The School delivers a 4-year Bachelor of Engineering (BE) programme in Mechanical Engineering, and a full-time 2-year Master of Engineering (ME) programme with Majors including Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering and Engineering with Business. In addition, the School delivers a number of specialist one year Master programmes, including MEngSc Materials Science & Engineering and MEngSc Engineering Management.

The School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering is a dynamic, research-driven school with a clear focus on delivering excellent teaching programmes. The School is home to Ireland’s national manufacturing research centre, www.i-form.ie, an active participant in UCD’s Energy Institute, energyinstitute.ucd.ie/, and its faculty conduct research in all aspects of mechanical and materials engineering. While the successful appointee will be encouraged to develop their own research agenda in a relevant area, we would ideally seek to appoint a candidate with an academic track record that is relevant to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and whose interests lie in the area of sustainable functional materials, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the development of a circular economy.

The successful candidate will engage actively in the School’s research and make a significant contribution to teaching and university life. The School seeks to recruit a suitably qualified candidate, with an expertise in materials science and engineering, ideally with a strong background in functional materials for environmental sustainability. Examples include electronic materials, optical materials, magnetic materials, thermal and electrical properties of materials, semiconductors, superconductors, photovoltaics etc.. The net contribution of research outputs should strongly contribute to reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and to cleaning up our environment.

95 Lecturer/Asst Professor Above The Bar (7943) Salary Scale: €60,261 - € 95,425 Per Annum

OR

95 Associate Professor (7941) Salary Scale: €78,333 - €110,623 Per Annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
