Your role


This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate engineering design educator who relishes the opportunity to join our learning and teaching function as an academic in delivering an innovative, relevant and inclusive curriculum. In particular, we are looking for individuals who have qualifications and experience in Product Design and Manufacture.

You will be instrumental in:

  • Facilitating the learning of our students through creating a vibrant learning environment and demonstrating your passion for engineering education.
  • Developing and implementing new and emerging approaches to higher education.
  • Using your well-developed digital skills to create engaging, interactive content for our Virtual Learning Environment.
  • Training students in the use of CAD/CAE systems such as SolidWorks and associated software.
  • Developing students’ understanding of the role of human factors/ergonomics in user-centred design.
  • Leading and participating in student workshops and tutorials.
  • Coaching students, including impromptu learning opportunities, ensuring you proactively meet student learning needs.
  • Setting and marking student assessment.
  • Training students in professional skills.
  • Providing pastoral support to students and relevant signposting.
  • Ensuring the learning outcomes of our programmes are understood and delivered.
  • Maintaining the standards required for innovative, inclusive, high-quality programmes.
  • Participating in open days, visit days and outreach activities.
  • Promoting TEDI-London locally, regionally, nationally and internationally – participating in e.g., conferences, subject interest groups, industry events and professional body activities.

Essential - Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

  • A passion for engineering education.
  • The ability to teach a diverse cohort of students with a broad range of backgrounds.
  • An understanding of sustainable development goals and social awareness, particularly within product design & development.
  • Demonstrable competency in providing student support – both academic and pastoral.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal – combined with excellent influencing skills.
  • A willingness to be hands-on and involved in activities that may not be within the role on a day-to-day basis – essential in a start-up environment.
  • A collaborative approach combined with excellent team working skills, within and across other disciplines and functions.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, vibrant environment with a high level of ambiguity – working across a number of activities concurrently whilst maintaining poise, pace and control.
  • A first degree.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body and/or a willingness to work towards this.
  • Fellowship of the HEA (or equivalent) and/ or a teaching qualification and/or prepared to study towards.

Desirable

  • A passion for identifying and implementing new and innovative approaches of impactful delivery with the curriculum.
  • A role within an external/ industrial organisation related to engineering.
  • The ability to contribute to programme validation, accreditation and/or quality
    assurance.
