The role

  • Are you are experienced in the digital world of coding, network administration, development, scripting, etc.?
  • Can you manage staff, plan projects from first principles, develop short- and long-term plans, working across these specialisms and others that are not your own?
  • Do you enjoy leading by example?
  • Would you like to do all this and more at the forefront of digital research and teaching?

We seek an empathetic and skilled manager with a demonstrable background in the Digital / Information Technology sector (either in Higher Education or industry).

You will take a small team and grow it over the next few years to support and direct the Faculty of Science and Engineering’s Digital research and associated teaching programmes.

What will you be doing?

  • Building and managing a small and highly specialised team to deliver novel and exciting Digital projects for a range of academic and student users.
  • Capturing requirements for novel projects from first principles and then directly, and indirectly, managing the work to successful completion.
  • Function as a key representative and stakeholder for the Faculty’s Digital strategy and aspirations both within, and across, the University.
  • Ensure that your team and work generate excellent, quality outcomes and documentation to support the staff and students who rely on them.
  • Organise and deliver support both to technical projects and directly to students and researchers who use the deliverables and outcomes.

You should apply if

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have actively performed operational work in a digital field.
  • Have experience of successfully delivering a range of digital projects, often from first principles.
  • Enjoy collaborating with both specialists and lay staff to achieve practical and pragmatic solutions to complex problems.
  • Be able to develop strong working relationships with customers (research staff and students) and other stakeholders to enable sensible, pragmatic, and achievable, solutions that meet research and teaching needs.
  • Be committed to developing and owning a quality and well thought-of service across the Faculty.
