Overview: Cork University Business School (CUBS), University College Cork invites motivated and talented graduates with outstanding academic records to apply to our funded PhD Scholarship scheme. We are looking to recruit PhD students from across the globe. We are looking for graduates who have a strong desire to earn a PhD that will attain the highest standards of academic excellence and positively influence their discipline in addition to being able to demonstrate the impact of their research to society.

CUBS is one of Ireland’s largest business schools with almost 4,000 students and over 180 staff. Double accredited by AMBA and AACSB and a member of PRME, CUBS is in the top 5% of business schools globally. The school is at an exciting stage of development including a plan to invest over €100m in a new business school campus in the heart of Cork city. As a research-intensive school, the ambition of CUBS is to focus on quality research and education, gain additional accreditations and internationalise further while continuing our drive to further embed sustainability and responsible leadership into our programmes and research activities.

PhD Learning Environment: Cork University Business School is committed to providing a dynamic and supportive learning and research environment, which recognises the diverse backgrounds and interests of both students and staff. PhD Supervisiory Team: The supportive supervisory team will be drawn from scholars with a strong track record in publishing in the leading international journals and texts in their field of expertise, gaining competitive research funding, and hold various editorial positions. The successful applicant(s) can be confident that s/he will be on the right path to a successful academic career through completing their PhD in UCC.

Applicants must have engaged with a potential supervisor in the preparation of their research proposal, and have their agreement to supervise the PhD, if successful. 

Applications without the explicit agreement of a supervisor will not be considered. If successful, additional supervisors, including a junior staff member, will be assigned to the supervision team.

Funding: Our scholarships provide up to four years funding, covering doctoral programme tuition fees and an annual stipend of €22,000 per year (subject to satisfactory progress in studies each year).

  • Business information systems
  • Economics
  • Food business and development
  • Management and marketing

Essential criteria To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have obtained a standard of at least Second Class Honours, Grade I in a relevant Masters degree.

If English is not your first language you will need to satisfy the English language requirement:

  • IELTS: 6.5- with no individual section lower than 5.5
  • TOEFL: 90 - with minimum scores as follows:
    • Listening- 17;
    • Reading - 18;
    • Speaking - 20;
    • Writing – 17

  2. CV (max. 2 pages)
  3. Sample of recent academic writing/work that you authored.
  4. Confirmation letter/email from supervisor.
  5. Evidence of satisfying the English language requirements (if English not first language).

Please note that candidates who do not submit all 4 (amd 5 where English is not your first language) documents by the specific deadline will not be considered.

Presentations and interviews will take place online on Wednesday June 19th 2024.
