Birmingham City University seeks a positive, organised and reliable administrator to join its expanding Development team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to learn more about the impact of philanthropy in higher education and gain hands-on experience of working in a busy, fast-paced fundraising environment.

You will play a key part in supporting BCU’s fundraising operation by organising events, handling correspondence and communications, processing and acknowledging donations, compiling reports, and managing the database. The role will also encompass general administrative duties such as raising purchase orders, arranging meetings and booking travel.

You will be expected to work on your own initiative, maintain high standards of administration and resolve any issues in a swift, calm and professional manner. You will often be the first point of contact for prospective donors to the University.

What’s in it for you?

In return for your dedication and hard work, you will benefit from ongoing opportunities for personal and professional development, as well as the following key benefits:

  • Opportunity for hybrid working.
  • Generous annual leave entitlement of 40 days (including bank holidays and closure periods).
  • An attractive direct contribution pension scheme, or the option to retain LGPS for existing and previous members.
  • Wellbeing advice and support through our Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme.
  • Staff Benefits: Non-Pay Benefits: Birmingham City University (bcu.ac.uk).
  • A supportive and collaborative culture and work environment, rooted in BCU’s values.

Why not take a look on the interactive map that shows the facilities across campus.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • hold a degree or relevant vocational qualification coupled with proven administrative experience.
  • possess excellent numeracy, literacy and IT skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and have exceptional attention to detail.
  • be a collaborative team player whilst also working efficiently to a high standard on your own initiative.
  • enjoy building meaningful relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • be proactive, focused and highly organised with an ability to prioritise effectively.

A keen demonstrable interest in fundraising and higher education would also be advantageous.

Please ensure you submit a covering letter addressed to the Director of Development with your application, as this will form part of the selection process.

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
