Corvinus University of Budapest is currently recruiting for the Rector’s position to lead the academic area of the university.

On 1 July 2019, Corvinus University became a private university maintained by a foundation, assuming the responsibility for leading the first model-changing university in Hungary.

This created an opportunity for Corvinus to embark on a process of renewal that will transform its operations, making it the best university in Central Europe in economics and social sciences. It will also enable the university to train and educate the most talented students in these fields and professionally prepare them for the challenges of the future.

To this end, Corvinus aims to develop its programme portfolio and talent management programmes in a student-centred and competency-focused way, which will help to maintain its reputation and make it an ideal choice for an increasing number of international, especially Central European, people.

Another priority of Corvinus is to achieve international research excellence, establish an international research culture, continuously develop the University’s innovation potential, and further strengthen and expand its international education.

The Rector’s position is a 4-year appointment with an indefinite term of employment to the position of a university professor. The start date in this role is July 2024. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Leading the academic area to achieve the strategic objectives set out in the University’s Institutional Development Plan
  • Strengthening the interdisciplinary nature of the university
  • Strengthening the university’s international teaching and research orientation and broadening its national and international teaching and research networks
  • Increasing the effectiveness of national and international fundraising activities
  • Internationalising the university’s teaching and research community
  • Developing bilingual Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes that are student-centred, methodologically innovative, and competency-based
  • Developing attractive doctoral programmes that create the basis for long-term academic excellence
  • Continuously improving the value proposition for students
  • Expanding the student’s recruitment, with a particular focus on Central Europe
  • Developing a portfolio of innovative postgraduate, executive, and non-degree programmes, catering for lifelong learning and market demands 

Required qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Tenured university professor at Corvinus University or willing to establish such a relationship with effect from the date of the Rector’s appointment
  • Management experience in a higher education institution
  • Fluent in written and spoken English language
  • Research experience at the forefront of international academic research.
  • Strategic thinking
  • Being part of an international academic and professional network
  • Result-oriented
  • Empowering and value-based leadership style
