The University of Plymouth is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic educational professional with substantial experience of teaching A level Mathematics, Core Maths and/or Further Mathematics to take on the role of Advanced Mathematics Support Programme Area Coordinator in the South West region. This post is funded by the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP).

You will play a key role in the operation of the AMSP, working as part of a team of Area Coordinators across the South West including Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. You will be responsible for the effective management of support for schools and colleges in improving the teaching and learning of level 3 mathematics and increase student participation in your area, particularly in Core Maths.

You will be provided with an office space at the University campus, while you may work mainly from home, but you will be expected to visit schools, the University campus, or other locations for meetings/events.

You will be able to carry out duties to the highest standard, including:

  • organising and delivering activities and events to promote level 3 mathematics to students in Key Stage 4
  • organising and delivering professional development for teachers of GCSE, Core Maths, A level Maths and Further Maths
  • advising and supporting schools and colleges with the development of their level 3 mathematics provision
  • coordinating support and tuition for students of Further Mathematics and for students preparing for university mathematics entrance examinations
  • liaison with Maths Hubs and other stakeholders to improve level 3 mathematics in your area

We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher with a passion for mathematics, who can evidence:

  • substantial experience of teaching A level Mathematics, Core Maths and/or Further Mathematics
  • some evidence of coaching, mentoring and/or delivering professional development
  • outstanding organisational and project coordination skills
  • the ability to build and maintain good professional relationships with teachers and schools
  • excellent communication skills
  • excellent IT skills

This is part-time position working 22.2 hours per week on a fixed-term basis for 1 year due to funding. The start date is 1st August 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter, with some flexibility about which days are worked.

There is an essential requirement within this role that you will be required to travel to and work at different University sites and/or other business locations that may not be easily accessible by public transport.
