Located within the Postgraduate Research Education (PGRE) team at Essex, are two Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs), both of which are funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and coordinated by the University of Essex: the first, the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) DTP unites ten universities: City University; University of East Anglia; Goldsmiths, University of London; University of Kent, University of Reading, Roehampton University, University of Surrey, and University of Sussex; the second, the South and East Network for Social Sciences (SENSS) DTP brings together eight universities, comprising City University; Cranfield University; University of East Anglia; Goldsmiths, University of London; University of Lincoln; Middlesex University and Roehampton University.
The DTP Core Team serves both DTPs, including managing the annual award of ESRC-funded studentships (scholarships) and Post-Doctoral Fellowships; managing these studentships once awarded; providing training for social science postgraduates across the thirteen universities making up both DTPs; and works in collaboration with external partners.
Duties of the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Administrator with excellent organisational skills to support the administrative operation of both DTPs. Working closely with the Coordinator and Manager, you will make a significant contribution to the delivery of a focussed service to the research students and staff associated with these DTPs and to the full range of consortium partners (universities and external organisations, such as businesses, charities, policy-makers etc). This will include supporting the annual competitions leading to the award of studentships (scholarships); assisting with the administration of those studentships once awarded; contributing towards the organisation and delivery of the annual Winter Inductions and Summer Conferences.
The DTP Core Team currently operate a hybrid working pattern, usually with one or two days spent working on campus with the remainder of working hours worked remotely.
Skills and qualifications required
You will be proactive with exceptional organisational and team-working skills. An excellent communicator, you will thrive in a busy environment and will have the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with both academic and professional services colleagues alike.
You will have proven administrative experience in a challenging and complex role along with an appreciation of the role IT systems play in supporting business processes. As such, you will have excellent IT literacy and be confident using bespoke databases and other electronic systems.
You will have a flexible approach and can-do attitude and be able to contribute to a culture of excellence in service delivery, sharing of best practice, and continuous improvement of administrative and professional services.
