The Opportunity:

You will contribute to and manage the delivery and organisation of teaching and supervision on UG and PG programmes, campus and on-line, and play a full part in the collegiate life of the subject area and the School of Social and Political Science, including activities such as attending School Teaching Committees and engaging with the Centre’s Decolonizing African Studies Working Group

This post is fixed term for 24 months from September 2024 to August 2026.

This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week). We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. 

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD or equivalent, either submitted or awarded by the time of appointment in African Studies or International Development or a related field; evidence of very high quality teaching at the forefront of the discipline 
  • Evidence of recent, sustained and developing attainments in teaching, appropriate to career stage, also indicative of commitment to, and potential for, excellence in teaching, including ability to develop and/or renew courses/programmes at undergraduate and  postgraduate levels, and online and distance learning.
  • Evidence of successfully driving improvement in student teaching and learning experience.
  • Evidence of attainments in, or skills sufficient to the development of, a full range of supervisory activities for post graduate dissertation supervision. 
  • Evidence of a commitment to collegiality and team working.
