Department

The Student Data Management & Analysis (SDMA) team provides a portfolio of data, reporting and statistical services for the University of Oxford, in addition to maintaining and facilitating access to reporting datasets on Oxford students and undergraduate applicants. The team includes a small number of BI data analysts who help to design, deliver and maintain the SDMA portfolio.

You’ll be expected to lead on delivery of a subset of the SDMA portfolio – both maintaining existing reporting and working with colleagues across the university to build new reporting from the ground up and enhance existing provision.

About the role

As a BI Data Analyst, you’ll deal with a varied workload including undertaking business analysis, designing and developing a range of new and existing reporting, and supporting others in the team to ensure a high-quality service across the whole portfolio.

Examples of the type of work you might be expected to undertake include producing:

  • Tableau/PowerBI dashboards surfacing management information
  • Operational reporting on applicants and students through SITS e:Vision
  • Public-facing admissions statistics
  • Student, admissions, examination, and equality and diversity monitoring data
  • Ad hoc data analysis, fulfilling statutory requests such as FOIs, and providing insight to the senior management team

About you

We’re looking for candidates with strong data management skills, alongside experience of data analysis, business analysis, visualisation, and an understanding of quality assurance and data protection requirements. You’ll be able to work with stakeholders to understand their requirements and deliver high-quality and impactful analysis and reporting both through static reports and dynamic dashboards. You’ll be a confident and effective commincator, able to engage in technical discussion, particularly with IT Services and Student Systems, regarding the central data warehouse and SITS (our main student system).

Experience working with higher education data (and particularly with SITS) would be helpful, but we are more interested in your technical expertise and willingness to learn and to think creatively.
