Climate Centre Operations Manager - Senior Research Officer

Location: Teagasc, Johnstown Castle Research Centre, Wexford, or other major Teagasc Research Centre subject to agreement with the Head of Climate Centre.

Basic Function:

The newly appointed Operations Manager will play a central role in driving the success and sustainability of the Teagasc Climate Centre. A knowledge of scientific/agricultural concepts, principles, practices and methods used to conduct climate research are required for this post. In association with the Head of the Climate Centre, the functions of the post will include:

• Manage the day-to-day operational activities and financial aspects of the Centre;
• Coordinate the Centre management structures and oversee operational efficiency;
• Coordinate, mentor and develop staff and students attached to the Centre;
• Foster collaboration across Programmes in Teagasc, and with research institutes and universities both nationally and internationally;
• Develop, coordinate and implement a robust Centre communications strategy.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Note: The ‘Essential’ qualifications, skills and knowledge outlined below are ‘must-have’ which will be used in the shortlisting process.

Essential Qualifications:

• Candidates must have an honours Level 8 degree in agricultural science, environmental science, soil science, biological sciences or related discipline.
• PhD/MBA or Postgraduate qualification in management and/or technical or life science discipline.

Note: While a PhD/MBA is an essential requirement for this post, equivalent research experience may be deemed acceptable solely at the discretion of the Director of Teagasc.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Postgraduate degree in greenhouse gas emissions or biodiversity.
