Hours: Full Time

Abertay is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. We have made our mark with high quality, well-directed teaching and research, and a stimulating and enriching experience for our students.

The Division of Psychology and Forensic Science in the School of Applied Science boasts an excellent research and teaching reputation. Psychology was ranked second in the UK for Teaching Satisfaction (NSS 2023) and top 10 UK Modern for Research Quality (UoA4 REF2021). We have an active multi-disciplinary Post-graduate and Early Career research community, supported by the Graduate school. The Division offers six British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited programmes, as well as a Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences (CSFS) accredited Honours and MSci programme in Forensic Science. We also offer postgraduate research programmes (Masters by Research, MPhil, PhD) and have a healthy enrolment of students undertaking doctoral studies. We have had significant investment in laboratory space and resources to support delivery of our programmes and research activities. We have a vibrant body of research students and have healthy levels of grant and knowledge exchange funding. Abertay University’s tenet of being ’rooted in the community’ is exemplified by the external engagement activities of the School’s staff and students.

Reporting to the Division of Psychology and Forensic Science, the postholder will provide research assistance to Dr Lara Wood on an ESRC funded research project titled ‘Age-based imitation bias throughout development, during daily interactions, and across cultures’. The postholder will work closely with the research team to help to ensure the research is completed effectively and within time constraints. The postholder will help with the recruitment and testing of participants as well as successful liaison with participants, their family, and other key partners (e.g., schools). The postholder will need an undergraduate degree in Psychology (or related discipline such as Anthropology or Social Science), with related experience in data collection and data management in research with human participants. The role involves working with children offsite and so will require the completion of a PVG and an ability to travel independently across Tayside. We will consider applications for part-time or flexible working.

The role requires an independent and personable individual with an ability to work in a team and engage with community partners. The role requires someone that can communicate appropriately and effectively with children of all ages, as well as their primary caregivers. A knowledge of Scotland and its culture would be helpful for the identification of appropriate research locations and contexts.

If you believe you have the skills and experience for this exciting and challenging role, please submit your application through our online recruitment system, via the ‘Apply’ button above.
