It is anticipated that a hybrid working pattern can be adopted for this role, where the successful candidate can work from home and the office. However, as this role is contractually aligned to our Milton Keynes office it is expected that some attendance in the office will be required when necessary and in response to business needs. We’d expect this to be approximately once or twice per week.

The role

The Student Fees team support students by ensuring those that wish to pay by tuition fee loan have loans in place before module start and any change of circumstances are processed to ensure the University receives the correct income arising from tuition fee loans. The team also handle applications from students for funding grants for module fees and study related costs.

The Senior Manager, Policy & Controls has specific responsibility for ensuring policies and procedures in respect of student loans, fees and financial support reflect current rules and regulations and that they are delivered through the operation accurately.

As part of the Student Fees Senior Management team, you will be responsible for;

  • Leading and managing staff in Student Fees including coaching, training and development of direct reports.
  • Ensuring that all changes to university policy and government regulations in respect of fees and funding for students are operationalised to ensure continuing compliance.
  • Providing management and oversight of financial support schemes and reporting to internal and external bodies
  • Ensuring complex queries, complaints and appeals are dealt with and responded to quickly and accurately across Student Recruitment & Fees
  • Advising on policy implications in respect of fees and funding to a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders from operational staff through to the Pro-Vice Chancellors Office.

Skills and experience

  • Experience working in a strategic or policy environment, with an ability to interpret and implement policy or procedure requirements.
  • Experience of producing non-standard correspondence, policy documents, complex written procedures, and reports.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.
