Stirling College, Chengdu University is looking for Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Data Science to deliver modules on its BSc (Hons) Data Science programme.

We are a collaborative partnership between the University of Stirling and Chengdu University founded in 2021, with a supportive, collegial environment, rigorous adherence to the University of Stirling’s academic standards, an emphasis on student-centred learning for our students, and professional development opportunities for our staff.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in contextualizing University of Stirling modules for delivery in China, selecting and developing appropriate learning materials and activities that reflect the contemporary digital media environment in China and incorporating these into the programme, and in some instances developing material for completely new modules.

The BSc (Hons) Data Science award covers a range of areas including:

  • Databases and data warehousing
  • Scripting and programming
  • Code performance analysis
  • User interface design
  • Statistics
  • Machine learning, natural language processing and computer vision
  • Information management
  • Computer security
  • Computer networks
  • Research methods in computing science
  • Artifical Intelligence

Requirements:

The successful candidate will normally demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • For Senior Lecturer Positions – Candidates should have PhD degree in a relevant subject area
  • For Lecturer Positions – at least Masters degree in a relevant subject area. Prefer fresh PhDs, or those who are pursuing PhD.
  • Ideally, at least 2 years of Higher Education teaching experience
    • Ability to plan and deliver engaging, student-centred lessons in English
    • Student-focused approach to teaching
    • Effective at using assessment for and of learning
  • Relevant industry experience
  • Ability to contextualise learning for a Chinese context.
  • It is desirable for candidates to have experience of teaching in a UK/International Higher Education Institution.
  • It is desirable for candidates to have a dedicated teaching qualification.
  • Non-native English-speaking candidates would normally have an IELTS 7.5 or equivalent.  

Salary & Benefits

The position is a full-time teaching post based in Chengdu with a teaching load of up-to twenty class hours per week, with a monthly salary starting above RMB 19,000 for a Lecturer position and above RMB 23,000 for a Senior Lecturer, an annual flight allowance and an apartment or apartment allowance*.

We offer all full-time staff the opportunity to study for a fully funded Postgraduate Certificate in International Education (PGCIE), as well as a full MA in Education. All staff hold individually negotiated development plans, regular peer observations are done throughout the semesters and various continual professional development sessions are organised in-house or with external speakers throughout the year.

About City:

Chengdu is considered one of the most liveable cities in China, with spectacular and varied cuisine, vibrant nightlife, and a wealth of cultural heritage, and is served by an extensive, clean and efficient metro system. The university is situated in a large and pleasant campus adjacent to a sizeable park on the outskirts of the city about 20 minutes from the city centre by metro.
