We are the University of Cumbria, for and from Cumbria and our localities, rooted in serving our communities, with people, place and partnership at our heart.
Now is a very exciting time to be joining us because we are delivering a new "Towards 2030" strategic plan focused on making the most of our three most valuable assets; People, Place and Partnerships, to become a catalyst for economic well-being for our region, nationally and internationally.
This role will suit someone with a strong media, communications and stakeholder engagement background, with a first class, track-record of identifying news opportunities and maximising their exposure with target audiences. You will have excellent new-media and traditional written communications skills, be an impressive communicator and familiar with public affairs and lobbying techniques.
As the PR and media manager, it will be your responsibility to strengthen the university brand and reputation by building awareness of the university across a number of external audiences. Deputising for the strategic communications & external affairs manager, and working closely with the vice chancellor, senior management team and academic colleagues, you will deliver the university’s PR and media plan as we continue to drive forward our ambitious Towards 2030 strategy. You will have a particular focus on trade and national reach, as well as support the development of a new reputation and engagement strategy, which will incorporate lobbying and public affairs activity. Exceptional copywriting skills along with hands on experience of creating compelling PR and media content are key requirements of the role.
Reporting to the strategic communications and external affairs manager, you will be expected to build relationships with a wide range of media outlets locally, regionally and nationally.
Through creative writing you will ensure our storytelling is distinct and respected and you will amplify our voice and influence across a wide range of journalists (broadcast, print and online) to positively impact our reputation and standing.
You will also play a key role as part of a busy press office function, dealing with a high-volume of incoming media enquiries and supporting crisis communications activity as necessary.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a forward-thinking, PR professional, to make a real difference within a young, dynamic and progressive institution.
