The MRC Epidemiology Unit, a department within the Clinical School, University of Cambridge, studies the genetic and environmental determinants of obesity, type 2 diabetes and related metabolic disorders.
We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic person to join our friendly Business Team as Administration Assistant, to cover Reception on Wednesday afternoons (12.00pm-5.15pm), and full day Thursdays (7.45am-5.15pm) and Fridays (7.45am-5pm). Reporting to the Reception and Facilities Supervisor, the role holder will provide an efficient, effective and professional reception and administration service to the MRC Epidemiology Unit's volunteer testing and office areas. This includes welcoming and directing visitors and volunteers to the MRC Epidemiology Unit, maintaining telephone cover and dealing with as many general enquiries as possible.
Further responsibilities include sorting and distributing mail, making room and conference bookings, administration of visiting workers and ordering stationery. The role holder will also provide support to the Unit's Business Team in the areas of Finance, Human Resources and Facilities, as well as the wider Unit with the ability to take on new tasks as and when required.
You will have proven communication skills both oral and written and the ability to multi-task whilst maintaining a high degree of accuracy. You will be highly organised and proficient in using the internet and MS Outlook, Word and Excel.
This role is part of a job-share with two other members of the team and it would be advantageous for the role holder to have a flexible approach to covering shifts for their job-share partners during periods of absence.
