We are now looking for a Head of Sustainability and the Environment, to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis, working 37 hours per week.

THE ROLE

This post supports the University in futureproofing and consolidating a pragmatic approach to strategic and operational environmental management. It will guide the University in integrating social value, environmental compliance, energy management and an improved environmental impact in all operational activities. Being customer focused, the role will build additional functionality along with capacity for delivering efficient resource use, with particular attention to utilities.

The post holder will be responsible for driving change, through the delivery of impact reduction strategies and frameworks. Including the development and measurement of agreed, achievable approaches for environmental compliance, waste management including recycling, energy management (including renewable sources) as well as addressing efficient pollution reduction and prevention.

ABOUT YOU

To be considered as the Head of Sustainability and the Environment, you will need:

  • A degree within a related field and/or considerable experience in a similar role.
  • Professional membership of a relevant organisation. Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment or Energy Institute.
  • Experience in leading change through strategic sustainability projects.
  • Experience in influencing, planning, and implementing environmental policies and strategies.
  • Experience responsibility of a complex pay and non-pay budget.
  • Evidence of delivering a range of environmental performance improvements.
  • Experience in delivery and maintenance of environmental management systems.
  • An understanding of environmental best practice and statutory requirements to include Wellbeing of Future Generations Act (Wales) 2016 and Environment Act 2016.
  • Can demonstrate respect for a diverse range of people and recognises the importance of building effective working relationships.
  • Adopts a positive approach to personal learning and development.

It would also be beneficial if you had:

  • Professional membership of a relevant organisation e.g., Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment or Energy Institute.
  • Postgraduate qualifications within the fields of environmental management/sustainability or related disciplines.
  • Chartered status.
  • Previous experience of working in Further or Higher Education or the public sector.
  • Experience of implementing BREEAM methodology.
  • Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh – oral and written.
