We are looking to appoint a Head of School to join our School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham. This exciting leadership role will require someone with passion, drive and high-quality leadership and communication skills to provide inspirational, effective, and efficient leadership to our school.

The Head of School will be accountable to the Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor for all aspects of the performance and running of the School, including resource and budget management, and working with the senior leadership team to develop capacity and talent within the School for delivery of excellence in education and research.

You will provide strong and effective leadership and management for the School, with the ability to motivate, develop and inspire others to deliver high standards in response to key performance indicators and metrics.

Working collaboratively with the Faculty senior leadership team and colleagues within the School, you will develop and implement the academic strategy for the School in line with the University and Faculty strategic plans, to achieve and maintain high standards in research and quality education and experience for our students. 

You must be able to demonstrate effective, inclusive leadership and have a proven track record of successful management, both strategically and operationally, of a department or academic unit, as well as experience in the delivery of quality research and teaching programmes.

Your interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate, influence, and motivate others is essential to ensure the vision and values of the University are achieved. 

You must be a confident presenter able to communicate in a large range of formal and informal settings, and strong analysis, judgement and problem solving will be key to success with the ability to cope under pressure with competing demands.

With a recognised profile of significant personal achievement, you will have good knowledge of the University and its research and teaching activities and management structures, as well as an understanding of the issues and opportunities facing the sector.

This is an exciting leadership role to act as an ambassador for the Faculty and University and to show your commitment to enhancing the quality and reputation of our academic services.

This is a permanent professorial appointment with the first five years as Head of School, and the potential for renewal for a second term. The role-holder will receive a leadership allowance upon taking up the role.
