Research and Innovation Services (RIS) provides support and services for our academics working across the research and innovation life cycle with a focus on applying for and managing funding and providing professional advice on collaborations and contracts. RIS is comprised of four teams; Award Services, Contract Services, Planning, Insight and Improvement, and Compliance and Assurance, who all work together to deliver a service to support, advise and provide expertise to our academic community for our extensive and varied portfolio of externally funded projects.

Award Services provides a range of specialist management and advice through Research Support & Development (Pre-award); European Research and Innovation Office (ERIO); Research Finance and Compliance (Post-award). The service is delivered in partnership with academic and professional services colleagues across UCL, collaborating organisations, and funders.

The DTG Studentships team are part of the Post Award team in Award Services. The team supports UCL’s Doctoral Training Grant portfolio, the financial management and administration of the studentships including UKRI Centres of Doctoral Training (CDTs); Industrial Case Studentships and Doctoral Training Programmes (DTPs) awards where UCL acts as coordinator.

About the role

Applications are invited for the key role of Research Finance Officer - Studentships to support the financial management and administration of the University’s Doctoral Training Grants portfolio. Reporting to the Research Finance Manager - DTG, they will be responsible for pro-actively providing a wide-ranging specialist support on all aspects of Doctoral Training Grants.

They maintain a detailed knowledge of funder terms and conditions and keeping up to date with future revisions. Provide guidance and advice to academic departments, Centre Directors, Supervisors and partner organisations on processes, procedures and best practice regarding the financial management and administration of the Doctoral Training Accounts. Produce timely reporting of financial statements, ensuring that the auditing and compliance processes are undertaken smoothly and effectively and in accordance with funder terms and conditions and University policy and procedures.

This is a 12 months FTC.

About you

The successful candidate will have experience in financial and administrative management of externally funded projects, funder terms and conditions, assurance and compliance obligations, excellent data analysis, reconciliation and IT skills.

They will demonstrate good time management skills and must possess the ability to prioritise and manage their own workload. They will have proven ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy with attention to detail.

They will have good communication skills and be able to build and sustain effective working relationships both internally and externally. Be customer focused and have a commitment to provide an efficient, professional and effective support service. Experience of managing Doctoral Training Grants would be greatly beneficial but is not essential.
