Head of the Thrust of Robotics and Autonomous Systems

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)

In June 2022, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) was founded as a higher education institution governed jointly by the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The university is in the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, a highly active and vibrant region worldwide. The State Council of the People's Republic of China has issued the "Overall Plan of Nansha of Guangzhou for Deepening the Comprehensive Global Cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao," which has aided in establishing and growing the university.

HKUST(GZ) aims to craft an innovative approach to cross-disciplinary education and research and to meet the needs of an ever-evolving world. To address the increasingly complex challenges in this rapidly changing world, HKUST(GZ) has adopted a unique academic structure that features "Hubs" and "Thrusts" instead of "Schools" and "Departments". This approach facilitates cross-disciplinary innovation and extends the knowledge frontiers across disciplines. Teaching and research at HKUST(GZ) occur in an outstanding intellectual environment rich in technical resources. English is the medium of instruction.

Robotics and Autonomous Systems (ROAS) is an emerging interdisciplinary area that studies the integrative system that deals with the design, construction, operations, and control elements for sensing, feedback, and data processing. It also aims to perform intended tasks with a high degree of autonomy.
