The School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment within the Faculty of Engineering and Technology seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer or Senior Teaching Fellow in Real Estate.

We are actively seeking an exceptional candidate for this role, with a strong emphasis on attracting seasoned commercial Chartered Surveyors with substantial work experience within the UK property market with chartered membership of the relevant professional body, such as the RICS, as essential. While holding a PhD is not obligatory, it is highly desirable. The key responsibilities of this position revolve around delivering comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate education in the realms of Real Estate and the broader Property discipline. The ideal candidate will exhibit a robust background in either Property Valuation, Sustainability, or Property Management. In addition to their teaching commitments, the successful candidate will be encouraged to actively participate in research endeavours and make substantial contributions to the academic pursuits of the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment. Furthermore, we foresee their active involvement in the development and execution of outreach programs, engagement initiatives, and collaborative interdisciplinary projects. Candidates are expected to have a firm grasp of the British education system.

The university has created a new academic career pathway for staff in academic roles. The structure focuses on career pathways, these being:

  • Academic members of staff whose responsibilities encompass both discipline-based research and teaching and learning.
  • Academic, Teaching & Learning, members of staff whose responsibilities are primarily teaching-focused, including pedagogic research.

The new pathways have been designed to ensure that academic strengths whether in research, scholarship, teaching, the wider student experience, leadership or innovation and engagement, are all appropriately recognised, developed, valued, and rewarded.

They reflect parity in progression and reward in recognition of these contributions and they enable individuals to focus on and be supported in their professional development and practice during the course of their career.

Applicants should apply against the Job description that they feel best reflects their strengths and expertise. On appointment assignment to the appropriate pathway and Job Description will be based on the successful candidates experience and academic strengths.

The School/department is committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN Gender Equality charter for promoting the career of Women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) in higher education. We particularly welcome applications from women for this post and all appointments will be made on merit.

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
