About the Role

The School of Geography at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) are seeking a project manager to work on major new externally funded research project investigating the impact of pollution and climate change on the resilience of coastal communities and seas. The project is a collaboration between five universities - QMUL’s School of Geography, University of Glasgow, Kings College London, University of Bradford and University of Sunderland – and more than 30 end-user environmental and community organisations.

The aim of our project is to understand the interlinked risks of climate change, coastal flooding and erosion, and coastal pollution for coastal community and ecosystem resilience. Working with stakeholders, communities and policy makers we will co-develop practical and policy interventions through a multi-dimensional assessment of coastal natural capital, heritage, and socio-cultural capital.

The focus for this role will be to support the co-ordination and delivery of the project.

About You

The successful candidate will have experience of managing large, multi-institution research projects but will not need expertise in pollution, climate change or coastal policy. The Project Manager will:

Manage project progress via appropriate tools such as a risk register, RACI matrix, progress/milestone trackers/Gantt chart. Provide regular updates to the project directors with regards to overall progress, milestones, interdependencies, and key deliverables.

Support day to day running of the project and provide the main point of contact for project coordination and managing relationships.

Maintain clear and effective communication with external partners, collaborators and the public.

Organise, facilitate and ensure smooth running of project team meetings, stakeholder meetings and community workshops.

Manage the budget, track spending and support effective procedures in the overall team ensuring compliance with the funding organisation.

Liaise with all project collaborators at regular intervals to collect carbon emission information for of the project activities.
