Hertfordshire Business School (HBS) wishes to appoint a Student Success Project Officer within the Student Success Team, which aims to enable underrepresented students to progress and succeed. This will include dealing with student enquiries, providing advice, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on student progress. As 64% of our Home undergraduate student demographic identify as Black, Asian or minority ethnic, and our male students experience higher non-continuation rates and lower degree awarding than their female counterparts we are particularly encouraging applications from candidates with affinity to the lived experience of our Black and Asian male students.

Main duties and responsibilities
The Student Success Project Officer will be responsible for maintaining accurate and confidential student records as well as reporting on student progress from various data sources. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to co-ordinate and organise events such as student social activities. You’ll focus on building student ‘belonging’, and a sense of community, with an open and approachable attitude. A large aspect of this role involves encouraging students to connect to opportunities, advising students on their academic progress and aspects of student life such as: time management, seeking support from tutors, using university learning systems and navigating university regulations. You will also be responsible for the line management of the Student Success placement student.

Skills and experience required
Due to the student-facing aspect of this role it is essential that you have proven experience of supporting students with pastoral and academic-related issues, with particular regard to reducing the race and ethnicity awarding gaps in a Higher Education environment. We are looking for a candidate who is skilled in active listening with strong written and oral communication skills, as well as excellent problem solving, organization and planning, and IT skills. Applications are particularly welcome from individuals who possess an aptitude for report writing and data monitoring and who demonstrate commitment for delivering a personalised level of support for Black, Asian and minority ethnic students. Proven experience of supporting students with pastoral and academic-related issues is essential.

Qualifications required
The appointee will have a minimum of an undergraduate degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.

Please view the job description and person specification for a full list of the duties and essential criteria. Please attach a personal statement showing clearly how your skills and experience match the Person Specification.

We regret that we are unable to offer UKVI sponsorship for this post; applicants will either hold UK Right to Work, or demonstrate access to UK Right to Work, before an offer is made.
