About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the University of Bath as a Research Associate on a new 3-year European funded project, entitled ‘Fluently’. This is a multinational project with 21 academic and industrial partners across mainland Europe. Fluently will explore and develop novel solutions to enable collaborative working between robots and humans within different production scenarios. You will be working with existing researchers in Bath and a team of EU partners. The position will require some travel to mainland Europe to collaborate on research with both industrial and academic partners. You will be working on a day-to-day basis with academic staff, post-doctoral researchers and PhD students, based at the University of Bath. The core focus will be on human-centred design and human data modelling to support development of the training programme within the context of human-robot collaborations in different production scenarios. 

This role is full time starting ASAP with an expected fixed term end date of 31st May 2025. 

As a member of Research Staff at the University of Bath, you will be encouraged to take up a minimum of 10 days professional development pro rata per year.

About you

This role will suit you if you:

  • hold a PhD degree in a subject area of direct relevance for the project (human centred design, training programme development, digital manufacturing, computer science, data science, data modelling) 
  • have previous experience of one or more of the following: human centred design, information and data modelling, ontologies and information standards applied to design and manufacturing applications
  • are self-motivated and possess project management and technical communication skills
  • have some experience of computer programming languages used for robotics research (e.g. C++/ Python etc)
  • have some knowledge of semantic mapping, ontology related software (e.g. Protégé)
