Course Leader Masters of Architecture

Arts University Bournemouth - School of Design and Architecture

About us

Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) is a globally leading independent arts, design, performance and media university.

At AUB we nurture creativity, engage communities, collaborate with industry and make a difference.

Our commitment to EDI

Our core commitment to diversity, inclusion and a sustainable future truly values the diversity of our students and staff, creating an inclusive environment where everyone’s identities and talents are valued and respected.  We welcome applications from all areas of the community and particularly encourage applications from people from ethnic minority backgrounds and people who are disabled, who are currently underrepresented in our workforce.

About the role

We are pleased to offer an opportunity to lead our Masters of Architecture (RIBA/ARB Part 2) course, part of the School of Design and Architecture at Arts University Bournemouth.

The successful applicant chosen for interview will have accumulated professional architectural practice experience as well as a proven track-record and expertise in the teaching and academic leadership of architecture HE courses.

All higher education courses will need to navigate a period of significant challenge and change: increasingly competitive student recruitment; the quality, currency, relevancy and value for money of a university education; readiness for graduate employment; student health and wellbeing; embedding diversity, inclusivity and sustainability in everything we do and the accelerating global impact of digital technologies.

Alongside these, with the conclusion of ARB’s consultation on the new regulatory framework for educating future architects, and confirmation of the RIBA’s position, courses in architecture will need a clarity of vision and purpose to not only ensure that they meet and maintain their professional accreditation but also support and prepare their students for their future in the creative industries, their future practice, or a portfolio career across a diversity of graduate roles.

As a senior academic in the School, you will be expected to rise to, and meet, these, and other challenges through drawing on the combined knowledge, skills and experience of all stakeholders and networks, both within the AUB and externally, as well as, of course, your current students and alumni.

As a Course Leader, you will demonstrate the qualities of leadership to those around you as well as nurturing the same in those with whom you work most closely. Leading by example, you will represent not only your course, staff and students, but the values for which the University stands.

As an experienced senior lecturer and tutor, you will not only be expected to become conversant with, and apply, all appropriate University regulations, policies and practices, but also to take ownership of problems that occur and demonstrate patience, reflection and self-awareness in learning from events.

As a person working with a diverse range of staff and students, you will be empathetic and respectful of difference, clear in communication, flexible in approach and, above all, active in listening. You will be central in promoting a culture of transparency, respect and trust.

The successful candidate will work in partnership with the Course Leader for BA (Hons) Architecture (RIBA/ARB Part 1) as well as staff across both courses. Such close integration will enable and promote student progression from Part 1 to Part 2, ultimately ensuring growth and the ongoing strength of the offer at AUB.

Our benefits

In meeting your performance expectations, each year you’ll have a salary increase in line with the grade of your role.  As well as this there is an annual cost of living increase.  AUB provides generous holiday entitlement, and you will be enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme (professional services staff) or the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (academic staff) from day one of employment.  Along with subsidised bus travel, cycle to work and annual savings schemes, our broad range of benefits can be explored on the AUB careers website https://aub.ac.uk/working-at-aub.

AUB has an agile working policy, and flexible working can be considered.  If you require support with your application or have any questions about the role or recruitment process, please email recruitment@aub.ac.uk . If you are disabled, we are committed to supporting you with any reasonable adjustments you require, so please email recruitment@aub.ac.uk and we’ll be in touch.

We look forward to receiving your application.
