About the Role

We now have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer in the Diamond ID group, where permanent magnet assemblies are designed, built and tested to lie at the heart of the Diamond facility, generating the brilliant light that is used in experiments. The Senior Mechanical Project Engineer will contribute to this by taking responsibility for all mechanical aspects of new and existing devices.

The key duties of the role include:

  • Providing the mechanical design and associated specifications for ID group permanent magnet assemblies.
  • Producing design calculations to predict design performance before manufacture and perform or supervise FEA on critical areas.
  • Negotiating, agreeing, and writing technical specifications.
  • Monitoring design and build progress against project plans using Gantt charts, resource, and procurement plans etc..
  • Interacting closely with scientific and technical staff in support of ID group projects.
  • Ensuring that ID group devices fully comply with Health and Safety law.

About You

The successful candidate should have a Masters’ degree level qualification in mechanical engineering, or demonstrate significant equivalent experience.

You will have experience of:

  • Mechanical engineering with significant design and assembly experience.
  • Precision mechanism design.
  • The specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of engineering systems.
  • Leading projects, completing specifications, and managing time, cost, and quality.
  • Motion control systems.
  • Working within a QA system.

You will also display the ability to provide ideas, creativity and to bring rigorous analytical methods to bear on design problems.
